Hallo Welt!

Juli in Weimar. Nächstes fixes Ziel: Coburg, 24. und/oder 26. Juli. Also ich hab’ Bock drauf!

Straßenleser Dennis Knickel »Serendipity« mon ami Weimar
Hello world!

In July, part 1 of my new book "Serendipity" will be released – the exact date will be announced asap. Already some months ago, when I was thinking about how to attain attention for my book, I developed the idea to dare an interesting experiment: Typically, authors are looking for locations where they can hold a reading. Those locations usually are book shops, reading stages, cafés, bars or cabarets. In my case, it’s been quite difficult to tell when "Serendipity" will finally be released. But a reading tour needs some time of preparation. The calendars of most locations are probably already filled with events when summer starts… and I’m an enemy of premature planning. So I developed the following thought: Everybody knows street performers, mainly musicians. But I have never seen a street reader
To cut a long story short: I plan on going on tour as a street reader this year! That means that I’ll move into my little Renault Clio for some time this year and travel from city to city to read from "Serendipity" to passersby in pedestrian zones and central squares. We’ll see how this will work out. I wonder if I can attract people’s attention so they stop and listen for a moment or even sit down next to me to listen to my stories. I’ll start my project as "Germany’s first street reader" in Weimar. There – specifically at the youth and cultural center mon ami –, my idea attained interest. They invited me to read for two evenings in a row under their patronage on the central Goetheplatz and also invited me for a radio interview tonight from 8 until 9 pm at Radio LOTTE Weimar.
Of course, I’ll also keep on working on "official" readings in book shops etc. Let me know if you know places in Germany, Austria or Switzerland where I might get a chance to read. The tour starts on July 22nd in Weimar. My next fixed destination will be Coburg on July 24th and/or 26th. The rest of the German speaking area will follow hereafter. Well, I’m damn excited to go on tour!

Please check my events calendar from time to time to stay up-to-date and subscribe for my newsletter if you’re not already a subscriber.

We’ll meet on the street,

And this is how the mon ami in Weimar advertises for my street reading:

Straßenleser Dennis Knickel »Serendipity« mon ami Weimar

"Dennis Knickel is a punk, a rioter, a divemaster, a traveler, a filmmaker and now an author as well. Traveling and writing are his topics for this summer. He dares an experiment as Germany’s first street reader. Music is nothing unusual on the street. But how will people react to the spoken word? The venturous Berlin resident by choice starts his experiment in the middle of Germany – in Weimar, on Goetheplatz under the arcades, between mon ami and Kasseturm.
