O Canada! »Erinnerungen« läuft in Toronto!

Am 14. März habe ich eine Mail aus Kanada erhalten: »Hi Dennis, we heard about your short film through the film circuit. Sounds like you have yourself a terrific film.«

Ich habe zwar noch immer keinen Plan, was es mit dem ominösen »film circuit« auf sich hat, bin ihm aber schwer dankbar, denn nun darf »Erinnerungen« eine weitere, eine neue Stecknadel in seine Weltkarte der Filmfestivals stecken. Am 26. September läuft unser Film beim allmonatlichen WILDsound Film Festival in Toronto und somit zum ersten Mal überhaupt in Kanada. Das WILDsound Film Festival ist eine sehr spezielle Veranstaltung: ein Feedbackfestival! Hier werden keine Preise verliehen – die Auszeichnung ist bereits die Vorführung in dieser »Best of Shorts« genannten Reihe. Stattdessen wird das Publikum direkt nach der Vorführung eines jeden einzelnen Films zu ebendiesem befragt.

Ein Q&A? Was ist daran so besonders? Nun, zunächst einmal werden keine Fragen an den Filmemacher gestellt – es sei denn, mir schenkt noch schnell jemand einen Flug nach Kanada, dann werde ich bestimmt auch was gefragt –, sondern direkt Kritiken vorgetragen. Der Clou dabei ist, dass die Macher des Festivals die Zuschauer bei ihren vorgetragenen Meinungen filmen und dies dann ins Internet stellen. Somit bekommen wir alle im Nachhinein mit, wie »Erinnerungen« von den Kanadiern angenommen wurde. Nach eigener Aussage des Festivals sind die Vorführungen zudem immer proppenvoll, was die bisher hochgeladenen Videos eindrucksvoll belegen. Ach, was bin ich schon gespannt!

I received an email on March 14: "Hi Dennis, we heard about your short film through the film circuit. Sounds like you have yourself a terrific film."

I still don’t know what the film circuit is, but I love it! Of course, I sent "Memories" to the writer of those lines, and now, five months later, our film can place another, a new pin on its world map of film festivals: it will be screened at Toronto’s monthly WILDsound Film Festival on September 26. For the very first time: Canada! Rock and roll! The WILDsound Film Festival is a pretty special event: it’s a feedback festival. No films are awarded — the "award" is already the screening itself in this series called "Best of Shorts". Instead, the audience reviews each film directly after watching it.

A Q&A? What’s so special about that? Well, first of all, people in the audience are not asking the filmmakers about the making of the film and things like that. Instead, they tell everyone around them what they think of it. Yes, they discuss and review the films right away! On top of that, the festival team records these spoken reviews and publishes them online, so everyone can see how much the Canadians liked or disliked the screened films. The festival says that nearly all of its screenings are regularly sold out. The videos published so far confirm this impressively. I’m already so excited!

Oh, and please let me know if you feel like sending me there in person, own a private jet or are planning a little cruise to Canada. My birthday is approaching, and so is Christmas. Right? 🙂
