Der Film wird im September 2009 innerhalb von zehn Drehtagen in Chorin, Brodowin (Brandenburg), Alzey, Gau-Heppenheim und Ramsen (Rheinland-Pfalz) gedreht. Stationen der Postproduktion sind Berlin, Wiesbaden und Mainz.
Im Frühjahr 2012 erhält der Film eine finale Tonmischung. Das bisherige Filmende – das »Monologende« – wird zum alternativen Ende erklärt. In der nun endgültigen Fassung, die am 14. April 2012 ihre Premiere auf dem Capital City Film Festival in Lansing (Michigan, USA) hat, gibt es keinen Endmonolog.
Ende August 2012 nimmt der Vertrieb Filmsortiment.de (heute eduflat.de) »Erinnerungen« unter Vertrag und bietet den Film Schulen, Medienzentren und Bildstellen für die nicht-gewerbliche, pädagogische Nutzung an.
Ende 2012 bekommt der Film vom Landesmedienzentrum Baden-Württemberg (LMZ) den »Daumen« verliehen, wodurch der Film offiziell für den Schulunterricht empfohlen wird. Das LMZ schlägt den Film zudem als einen von insgesamt nur 15 Filmen zum Thema »Mensch« (u. a. mit Roman Polanskis »Der Gott des Gemetzels«) als Schwerpunktthema für die schriftliche Abiturprüfung 2015 vor. The film was shot over ten days in September 2009. The filming locations were Chorin and Brodowin in Brandenburg, as well as Alzey, Gau-Heppenheim and Ramsen in Rhineland-Palatinate. Postproduction took place in Berlin, Wiesbaden and Mainz.
The film received its final sound mix in spring 2012. The previous ending of the short film — the "monologue ending" — became the alternate ending. The final version premiered at the Capital City Film Festival in Lansing, Michigan, USA, on April 14, 2012.
In August 2012, the distributor eduflat.de acquired "Memories" and began offering it to schools, media centers and educational film libraries for educational use.
At the end of 2012, the Public Media Center of Baden-Württemberg (Landesmedienzentrum, LMZ) awarded "Memories" the "Thumb", officially recommending it for use in schools. The LMZ also recommended "Memories" as one of only 15 films on the theme "Human Being" for the written 2015 Abitur exam. Roman Polanski's "Carnage" was another film on that list.
