Let Me Introduce You to… 6 Gramm Caratillo!

Ich habe es bereits mehrfach kryptisch an- und im letzten Beitrag auch spektakulär unkryptisch verkündigt: Ich singe jetzt in ’ner Punkband!
Die Band heiĂźt 6 Gramm Caratillo und wird durch unseren Songschreiber Kai Wohmann an der Gitarre, Max Leistikow× am Bass sowie Tim Bob Jones am Schlagzeug komplettiert.
× Nein, das ist weder unser Max noch seine Website. Aber … Witzischkeit kennt keine Grenzen.
6 Gramm … was für’n Ding?
Der Name der Band stammt von der gleichnamigen Kurzgeschichte Horst Bieneks, welche 1960 vom künstlerisch grandiosen, menschlich jedoch – speziell nach den Offenbarungen aus dem Januar 2013 – weit entfernt von grandios agierenden Klaus Kinski als Monologhörspiel veröffentlicht wurde.
Doch gerade aufgrund dieser Zwiespältigkeit (und um Zwiespalt geht es auch in der Geschichte) lässt der Name viel Freiraum für Interpretationen, kann zum Nachdenken anregen und vermag – speziell aufgrund der Verbindung zu Kinski – auch zu provozieren. Eine Hommage an Kinski soll unser Bandname nicht sein. Als eine Art Vorbild für diese Art der Namensgebung möchte ich Marilyn Manson als Beispiel nennen:
Der Künstlername Marilyn Manson stellt eine Zusammensetzung aus den Namen der Schauspielerin Marilyn Monroe einerseits und des Kriminellen Charles Manson andererseits dar. Damit soll die untrennbare Zusammengehörigkeit von Gut und Böse verdeutlicht werden. Manson spricht von zwei »magischen Worten«, die die amerikanische Kultur widerspiegelten und als solche bereits für seine Kindheit prägend waren.Wikipedia
Kluggeschissen, Teil 1:
Bei »Caratillo« werden die zwei L übrigens wie ein J ausgesprochen. Español, you know. Also wie in Sevilla, Paella oder Mallorca: Sevija, Paeja, Majorca.
Horst Bieneks »Sechs Gramm Caratillo«
In Bieneks »Sechs Gramm Caratillo« geht es um einen Wissenschaftler, der sich mit einem Tonbandgerät in seinem Zimmer einschließt und aus – wie er stets betont – wissenschaftlichen Gründen einen Selbstversuch durchführt, der nach seinen Berechnungen definitiv mit seinem Tod enden wird. Bei diesem Versuch konsumiert der Wissenschaftler sechs Gramm des mexikanischen Giftes Caratillo – welches es notabene in der Realität nicht gibt. Die Uhr tickt, der Puls steigt und die Erinnerungen jagen durch seinen Kopf …
Je länger man dem Mann zuhört, desto mehr hinterfragt man seine gebetsmühlenartig vorgetragene Intention und fragt sich, ob er nicht doch einfach nur aus suizidalen Gründen dem Tod die Türe öffnet. Das Hörspiel mit Kinski als Wissenschaftler kannst Du Dir auch auf YouTube anhören.
Kluggeschissen, Teil 2:
Sowohl der Sprecher zu Beginn des Hörspiels als auch Kläuschen sprechen Caratillo »Caratiljo«, also mit L und J aus. Interessant, vielleicht nicht ganz so falsch wie mit Doppel-L, aber eben doch falsch. Du fliegst zumindest hoffentlich nicht nach Maljorca, um dort ’ne Paelja zu essen.
Die ersten Aufnahmen
Und jetzt kommt’s: Wie ich im letzten Beitrag bereits schrieb, hatten wir am 12. Dezember 2015 unser erstes Konzert. Ort des Geschehens war das Haus Mainusch auf dem Mainzer Uni-Campus. Erfreulicherweise brachte Leonard Jung sein Aufnahmegerät mit und sorgte dafür, dass wir nun die ersten (inoffiziellen) Live-Aufnahmen haben. Yeah!

6 Gramm Caratillo besteht aus vier Individuen. Ich kann nicht garantieren, dass alles, was ich im Namen der Band schreibe, auch die Meinung der anderen drei widerspiegelt und ich kann nicht alle drei immer gegenlesen lassen, bevor ich einen Beitrag poste. I already announced it several times quite cryptical and in my last post spectacularly uncryptical: I’m the singer of a punk rock band now!
The band’s name is 6 Gramm Caratillo and is completed by our songwriter and guitarist Kai Wohmann, our bassist Max Leistikow× and our drummer Tim Bob Jones.
× Nope, that’s neither our Max nor his website. But … well it’s funny to link to this pal from Berlin with the very same name.
6 Gramm … What the Fuck?
Our name comes from a short story with the same title by German author Horst Bienek, which got recorded as a monologue audio drama by Klaus Kinski in 1960. Kinski was a fantastic artist, but a way less fantastic human being who may have abused his daughters. This dark side of his life came to light in 2013, when one of his daughters wrote a book about the abuse.
But especially because of this ambivalence (and ambivalence is also a central part of Bienek’s story), the name "6 Gramm Caratillo" gives enough space for interpretation, can make you think and is also capable of provoking – especially because of Kinski being the voice of the story. Is our band’s name a homage to Kinski? Definitely not. I’d rather name Marilyn Manson as an example for our choosing:
His stage name was formed by juxtaposing the names of two American cultural icons, namely actress Marilyn Monroe and murderer Charles Manson. Marilyn Manson thereby wants to clarify the inseparable togetherness of good and evil. Manson calls it "two magic words" that mirror the American culture and as such were formative in his childhood already.(German) Wikipedia
Smart ass mode, part 1:
The word "caratillo" – even though it is written with two L – is pronounced like you crazy English speaking people pronounce Majorca. Why? Because it’s an (invented) Spanish word!
Horst Bienek’s "Sechs Gramm Caratillo"
Bienek’s "Sechs Gramm Caratillo" is about a scientist who locks himself and a tape recorder up in his room to – as he always underlines – conduct a scientific self-experiment that will definitely kill himself within 30 minutes. For this experiment, he drinks a glass of water that contains six grams of the (in reality by the way not existing) poison caratillo. The watch ticks, the pulse increases and the memories run through his head…
The longer you listen to the man, the more you question his consistently repeated scientific intention and wonder if his experiment isn’t just an excuse for suicide. You can listen to the intensive voice of Kinski as this scientist (in German of course) on YouTube.
Smart ass mode, part 2:
The speaker at the beginn of the audio drama as well as Kinski pronounce caratillo the wrong way. They do what lots of Germans do with Spanish words that contain two L: They pronounce it as if it was written with a L and a J (or in English probably H?). Interesting, maybe not as wrong as if you pronounce it like two L (like in Seville e.g.), but well: still wrong.
The First Recordings
And here it comes: We had our very first show on December 12, 2015, As I wrote in my previous post. We played at Haus Mainusch at the campus of Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. Fortunately, Leo Jung brought his recorder. Hence, we’ve got our first (unofficial) live recordings. Yeah!
